About Civic Data Ambassadors

Cost: FREE!

Estimated time requirement: 2 hours per week for 6 weeks

Are you a librarian in Boston interested in data? From March 5th - April 27th 2018, the Engagement Lab is collaborating with the City of Boston to offer a free six-week online course that teaches librarians the basics of data literacy. The course has been designed by Catherine D’Ignazio (Emerson College) and Rahul Bhargava (MIT), internationally recognized leaders in data literacy for public information professionals and developers of the Databasic.io platform.

Librarians in the Civic Data Ambassadors program will access original materials and complete fun activities online (approximately 2 hours per week).

By the end of this course, participants will learn:

  • What civic data is and how to use it to answer questions that directly impact Boston communities.
  • How to search for, find and filter open data
  • The basics of spreadsheet analysis and quantitative text analysis
  • How (and when) to help others make use of civic data

No prior experience with data is required, just curiosity to learn. Are you a librarian interested in participating? Click here to register today.
