The first annual BCM conference focused on connecting academic research on media and civics with the practice of designing, implementing, and aiding in civic interventions.

Boston Civic Media: Metrics and Methods was the first annual meeting of the Boston Civic Media and it was focused on the state of civic media research in the Boston area. The Greater Boston area has a rich ecosystem of collaborators who are invested in applying media for social. This event was the first of its kind to bring together researchers and practitioners locally to identify methodological and institutional approaches to doing this work. The conference gathered a core group of researchers from fields including sociology, policy, communications, and education, as well as practitioners from government, advocacy and community organizations to discuss approaches to measurement, evaluation, and co-design.
