Affiliated Faculty, Visual & Media Arts

I’ve been an affiliated faculty at Emerson College since 2005 and received the Stanzler prize for outstanding teaching. My interdisciplinary courses — like Filmmaking and the Environment, Urban Studies and Filmmaking, and Documentary for Social Action – have the goal to directly involve students in using the visual arts for positive change. I've taught environmental filmmaking workshops in Russia, Turkey and China. I'm a military veteran who served with the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

Professionally I’m a documentary filmmaker. My current work is a film that focuses on two formerly incarcerated men who achieve success as ironworkers and entrepreneurs.

Other recent work includes a series of “sister cities” videos meant to provide a sense of common humanity to people in blue and red cities; and a documentary project that provides insight into the dangers of misunderstanding between nuclear powers like N. Korea and Iran, starting with the Cuban Missile Crisis. My documentary work has screened on PBS, the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, and international broadcasters including NHK/Japan, CBC/Canada, CCTV China and others.
